Living in Mount Vernon

Beautiful Mt. Vernon, Alabama, is located on Highway 43, at Highway 96, about 20 miles north of Mobile. Mount Vernon has deep roots in Alabama’s rich soil of history. Before Alabama became a State in 1819, Mount Vernon was already a bustling little village. Her onset came from 2 military installations, Fort Stoddert and Mount Vernon Arsenal.

Senior Center

Senior Citizens Services

Senior Citizens meet at the Mt. Vernon Senior Center at 1220 Military Road for lunch and activities from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday – Friday. The center is closed on Saturday and Sunday.  Seniors enjoy dominoes, bingo, field trips and computer training. Suggested Lunch Donation is $1.50

Library

The Mount Vernon Public Library is located at 19180 Shepard Lake Road. Patrick Darrington is the director.  Phone number 251-299-1067.
Hours of Operation 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. Monday – Friday

The library offers print options at .10 cents per page in black and 0.25 cents per page for color. We do not fax. Wi-Fi services are also available.

Community Center & Civic Center

The Community Center is located at 19180 Shepard Lake Road East and is available for rental for most any occasion. The center is ideal for small meetings, parties and weddings with available seating for 75. It has a small kitchen to accommodate caterering and food preparation.

The Civic Center, located at 1230 Magnolia Street, can also be rented.

Schools

Public education is provided by the Mobile County Public School System.

Kindergarten through Grade 8 – North Mobile County K-8th on Salco Road.

Grades 9 – 12 attend Citronelle High School.
